  I went out swimming on Imperial beach at the south end of San Diego, during a conference. I was caught in a riptide and try as I may, I could not get back to shore. The current was sweeping me out further and further. I was by myself and a lifeguard had to come out and get me. It was quite a commotion. When I ran into Mother a few days later, she asked me how I was doing. She started to describe the incident to me, as if she had been on the beach watching. There was no way she could have been there physically, as this was a beach far from the conference, during conference time!
